Amelia (Millie) Ruth Carter, age 71, passed away peacefully at her home in Duanesburg, NY surrounded by family on Tuesday, August 25, 2020. She was born on November 30, 1948 in Buffalo, NY to Ruth (Thompson) Hardy/Johnson and Edwin Hardy. Millie was a 1966 graduate of LaFayette High School in Buffalo, NY. She married David James Carter on December 10, 1966, celebrating 33 years of marriage before his passing in 1999. Together they had three children to whom she was very devoted.
Dave and Millie were active members of their church and enjoyed traveling to amusement parks, especially Disney World. Millie loved spending time with her family and swimming in the pool. She adored her 5 grandchildren, and 8 nieces and nephews; her 3 sisters were her bedrock. Millie fully enjoyed life and often celebrated with delicious meals, singing, and laughing with friends and family.
Millie is survived by 3 children: Amy (Mark) Carter, Matt (Stephanie) Carter, and Dawn (Christian) Nichols; five grandchildren: Abigail, Madeline, Weston, Gwendolyn, and Lilith; her three sisters: Karen (Jeff), Joan (Gordon), Celia (Terry); along with many nieces and nephews.
Millie became a strong advocate for our democratic freedoms. She spent many hours contemplating the attacks on our democracy and was deeply saddened with the state of America. One of Millie’s last requests was that all of us practice our democtratic right and vote in this November’s election. In lieu of flowers, we ask for you to consider a donation to the Democratic National Committee or The Community Hospice Foundation. Flowers may be sent to 2750 Skyline Drive, Schenectady, NY 12306. A private funeral service will be held for family only.
