Obituary

Alplaus - Kathryn Lois Dunn Dempster Sheldon of Allaus, NY died peacefully at home on Jan. 17, 2022.  She was born in Woodbury, NJ on September 14, 1925.  Kathryn was the daughter of the late Edmond Charles Dunn and Mary Elizabeth (Mamie) Bernard Dunn and the sister of the late Dorothy Dunn Jennings.  She was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School, SUNY at Oneonta with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and SUNY at Albany with a Master's Degree in Reading.

Kathryn retired from the Schenectady School District as a Reading specialist in 1981.  Earlier teaching positions included Cedarhurst Long Island and Aruba, N.W.I.  During WWII, Kathryn worked in Washington, DC for the Office of Strategic Services which was a precursor of the C.I.A.

Kathryn married John Thomas Dempster on April 12, 1952 at Union College Memorial Chapel.  Tom died in December 1971.  On March 1, 1987, Kathryn married childhood friend Kenneth S. Sheldon at Faith United Methodist Church.  Ken died in December 2004.

Kathryn was a former member of the A.A.U.W. Fatith United Methodist Church and the Schenectady Light Opera.  She was a current member of the NSDAR Schenectady Chapter.  She enjoyed spending time with Tom and their daughters at the family summer house on Lake George.  As well as traveling abroad and in the states with Ken, Kathryn treasured the time she spent with her family at home.

Kathryn is survived by her three daughters; Ann Comley (Gary), Joan Brown (David) and Janice Dempster (Fred Martin).  Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Jill Gandolfo (Chris), Julie Roy (Kevin), Ruth Tabak (Gabe) Jeremy Brown (Kara Schnoes), Leo Folsom (Alana), Tom Urbanski (Heather), Carly Urbanski (Kamate Berepiki), nine great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Bryce Gandolfo,Liora and MiraTabak, Edia and Asher Scnoes-Brown, Alec and Miller Roy, Ezra Berepiki witih two more expected in April.

A special thank you to Dr.Catherine Smitas, Christina McGaffin NP, Dr. John Pezullo and Bibi Mohammad for their loving care of Kathryn.  Kathryn has requested that there be no funeral service.  Contributions may be made to the Alplaus Fire Department. and or the Alplaus Ladies Auxillary if so desired.
